A few of our most recent works (in progress) are a documentary,ZIGZAG TO TIMBUKTU. Few places in the world have an aura of mystery as startling as Timbuktu. The name is so rooted in legend that most Americans and Europeans think of Timbuktu as something made up. Popular sayings such as, "I'll knock you clear to Timbuktu," suggest that Timbuktu has existed more as a mystery. One of our goals is to explore how the moniker, "Timbuktu," might have evolved in western mythology.

The video documentary will feature interviews, questioning a randomly selected group of people about their knowledge or perception of Africa in general and about Timbuktu in particular. Our cameras take us through downtown Houston and to select locations in the United States: through "mainstream" traffic, afternoon gatherings in sports bars, spas and salons, coffee shops, malls, churches and mosques; on the road in rural areas, in taxi-cabs, airports, amusement parks, zoos and high school and college campuses, interviewing professors, teachers as well as students.

We plan to interview at least 500 people. In addition to the interviews, we'll review some of the jungle and Tarzan movies made in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s that made reference to Timbuktu and/or Africa. One of our goals in the documentary is to explore how the moniker, "Timbuktu," might have evolved in western mythology.

We are also offering two internships to Houston area high school or college students (especially disadvantaged young men and women) who are interested in a career opportunity in film and/or history. Interns receive stipends, learn the basic artistic, creative and technical skills in production, as well as increase their knowledge of world history.
